Dave Honour started leading trails in the New Germany Nature Reserve, KZN at the end of the 1990s. Having a love of the natural environment Dave took the skill further and registered with the Field Guides Association of South Africa to learn more about the skills of guiding in the wild. Over several years of learning all aspects of the wilderness, Dave eventually passed the Level 3 exams with FGASA to become a Professionally qualified Field Guide.
In KZN Dave joined the Natal Parks Board as an Honorary Officer where he served in the Kranzkloof Nature Reserve near Durban. Here he led trails in the reserve and extended his knowledge by training in Big 5 wilderness areas of iMfolozi Game Reserve. He achieved a double bar Honorary Officers badge with over 14 years of service in ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (previously Natal Parks Board) before moving to Cape Town in 2015.
Dave also trained as a guide for hiking in mountains and for several years led trails in the uKhahlamba-Drakensburg mountains of KZN. These experiences encouraged Dave to later climb both Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.
In addition to leading trails in the wilderness Dave has a passion for military history and took tours to the battlefields of KZN. Here the history extends from the early Zulu wars with the rise of King Shaka, to the Battle of Blood River then later Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars. Meeting with notable battlefield guides gave Dave the background for taking informative tours and including personal accounts of events making the experience all the more exciting.
Now in Cape Town, Dave has combined all his experience and knowledge to provide safe, informative tours of the battlefield at Blaauwberg and other interesting locations.
