The City of Cape Town has re-opened the reserves which means that we will soon be able to take guided tours to the Battlefield and Blaauwberg Hill.
At the moment the reserves and beaches are open to the public but the facilities are still closed including toilets and the bird watching hides at Rietvlei NR.
I did manage to get to walk around Blaauwberg at the weekend and was pleased to see the herd of Eland close up and an Angulate Tortoise who has taken the warm weather recently to wake up. It was evident that the Spring flowers are beginning to show their intent to bloom, so hopefully the reserves will be completly open in time to be able to take paying guests through to witness the beautiful event.
Looking forward to hosting you very soon.
I would love to go on a guided tour some time. Lived in Milnerton for the last 60 years.
Hi Jeff,
Sorry for the delay in replying, I was up in the Cedarberg last week and had limited access to the internet. I can certainly arrange a guided tour of the battlefield for you. Let me know when suits you and if you have a group of people who want to join you and we can make arrangements. To give you an idea of a tour, we would meet at Zonnekus Resort in Morning Star for a coffee where I can give the history behind the battle. Then we would drive in to the reserve and either do a walk of the battlefield (8kms) or a drive to the top of Blaauwberg Hill to look over the battlefield.
Send me a mail on [email protected] and we can go from there.
Cheers, Dave.
