1806 Battlefield Tour

Advance of the 93rd at Battle of Blaauwberg 1806

A Hiking tour of the battlefield to experience the feel of the battle, whilst also taking in the natural beauty of one of Cape Towns hidden jewels.

You will be met by Dave Honour at Zonnekus Resort in Morning Star, where the build up to the battle will be explained over coffee.

After refreshments, we will drive into Blaauwberg Nature Reserve, where the walk will begin. The route will take the path of the 2nd Highland Brigade, through the battlefield, to the position of the defending Batavian Forces. At the Blaauwbergvallei Outspan, we will stop for drinks and snacks at the location of the field hospital, before walking back to the start. Thereafter, a description of the 24th Regiment’s Grenadiers attack on Kleinberg will be given, before ascending up the hill, where we can see WW2 buildings and admire the magnificent view of Table Mountain and Robben Island. The tour concludes back at Zonnekus, where there are bar and restaurant facilities available.

Total distance 12kms, includes a 250m ascent of the hill.
